It's a GREAT day to be a Bulldog!
903.896.4332 ext 8037
Conference Period: 1:04 - 1:49
ABC’s of Fifth Grade
A Attendance - It is so important for your child to be at school on time everyday! You will significantly increase your child’s chances for success by making sure that he or she is here, and on time, everyday.
Assignments - EAch day your child will have an assignment sheet to write down their class assignments and spelling words.
B BIRTHDAYS - Birthdays are very special in fifth grade! We welcome nutritious snacks (cheese, crackers, pretzels, veggie sticks and ranch dressing, fruit and juice) or cupcakes for party celebrations. Bring them to the office and we’ll celebrate at the end of the day.
Book Clubs - This year, I will be sending home monthly book club forms from Scholastic. If you order from these clubs, please make all checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs.
C Character is doing the right thing when no one is looking. We care about each other and our classroom, we share what we have, listen carefully, help each other learn, work hard, and have fun together.
D Differentiation - It is my philosophy that every child is unique and learns in different ways. Each child needs to be challenged at their own level. I differentiate my lessons to fit the needs of all students. It is important to know that your child may have different work than another child, but rest assured that everyone is learning the same concept, just in a way that is best for them.
E Emergency Information - It is incredibly important that I have correct and up-to-date phone numbers for you! If there is an emergency, I need to be able to contact you, so please let me know if your address or phone number changes during the year.
F Field Trip - We will take a field trip in the spring. More information will be sent home later in the year.
G Grades - Graded papers will be sent home weekly (Tuesday) in their ‘go home’ folder. A minimum of 22 grades per nine weeks for math and reading will be taken.
H Homework - Homework will be assigned mostly Monday thru Thursday. It will primarily consist of Math, and Reading. Homework reinforces what was taught during the school day. It should not be a stressful time. Please let me know if your child is having difficulty with the assignments.
I Independent Reading - There will be time set aside throughout the school day for independent reading. Independent reading should also be done nightly (30 minutes for homework). Please sign your child’s reading log four nights a week.
J Journals - There are 5 journals in fifth grade, one for each subject (math, reading, science, social studies, language arts). Science loves their journaling so much, they need two during the year!
K Kindness - If we all do one random act of kindness daily, we might just set the world in the right direction. -Martin Kornfield
L Library - Our class has a classroom library where students will be allowed to check out a book. However, these books may not leave the classroom. They are for independent reading in class only. Our class goes to the school library as a special once during the week. Please remember to bring back the library books every day in order to check out another book.
M Mistakes are proof that we are trying! We may not always get it right, but we are always trying.
N Nothing is impossible. The word itself says, “I’m possible.”
O Organization - Your child will use a 2 inch binder to organize their journals, papers, and other supplies. They will use the binder in class every day, so please remind them to come prepared with it daily.
P Parent Involvement - Parent involvement is extremely important to a child's success in school. Parents can be involved in many ways, whether it's at home or at school. Our PTA is a wonderful organization that puts together several educational and fun activities for our school, such as the book fair. Information on joining the PTA will be sent home at the beginning of school. They wouldn't be able to do it without volunteers.
Q Questions - If at any time you have any questions about your child or his/her progress, feel free to contact me. You may write a note, e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call me at 903.262.4469 after school hours.
R Report Cards - Your child will receive four report cards this year. Each report card is sent home at the end of the nine week marking period. They will receive letter grades in all academic subjects. Please make sure you sign the envelopes and return them as soon as possible.
S Schedule - I have attached a schedule to these ABC’s so that you know your child’s day.
T Transportation - If there is a change in your child's transportation, please be sure to let the office know, in writing.
U Unfinished Work - Class work that is not finished during the school day will need to be taken home, finished and returned the next day.
V Visitors - We love visitors! Please enter through the front door by the HS parking lot and sign in at the office.
W Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are right. -Henry Ford
X eXtra Practice - We all need a little help at times. Sometimes, a bit of extra practice can make all the difference. If you feel your child needs extra help, please contact me and I will be happy to provide you with ideas and resources.
Y You are your child's first teacher and play an extremely important role in his/her education. You know and understand your child better than anyone else. We value your insights and input.
Z Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest. It will help him/her be alert and ready to learn each day.
