Edgewood Elementary and High School Cafeteria is
implementing a service for our students to reduce food waste in the lunch room.
We have started a service called a Sharing Cooler for our students. We hope
this will help with the food waste that is generated each day. We still are
encouraging the students to chose only what they will eat and eat what they chose.
The Sharing Cooler offers an opportunity for sharing items that would otherwise
be thrown away.
What is a Sharing Cooler?
The Sharing Cooler is a place where students can
unopened food and
drinks that they chose not to eat or drink. This
opportunity for other students to take additional helpings of
food or beverages
from the Sharing Cooler at no cost to them.
How does the Sharing Cooler work?
Students must drop off unwanted, unopened food
or drink to the Sharing Cooler after leaving serving line. If a student is
still hungry after finishing their own meal, they may pick-up an item.
What can be placed in the
Unopened packaged food,
sealed drinks and fresh fruit that has a peel.
crackers, cereal, chips, condiments, fruit cups & yogurt cups
Fresh fruit examples:
oranges or bananas, nothing with an edible skin.
