Edgewood Elementary and High School Cafeteria is implementing a service for our students to reduce food waste in the lunch room. We have started a service called a Sharing Cooler for our students. We hope this will help with the food waste that is generated each day. We still are encouraging the students to chose only what they will eat and eat what they chose. The Sharing Cooler offers an opportunity for sharing items that would otherwise be thrown away.

What is a Sharing Cooler?

The Sharing Cooler is a place where students can place

unopened food and drinks that they chose not to eat or drink. This

provides an opportunity for other students to take additional helpings of

food or beverages from the Sharing Cooler at no cost to them.

How does the Sharing Cooler work?

Students must drop off unwanted, unopened food or drink to the Sharing Cooler after leaving serving line. If a student is still hungry after finishing their own meal, they may pick-up an item.

What can be placed in the Sharing Cooler?

Unopened packaged food, sealed drinks and fresh fruit that has a peel.

Examples: Unopened crackers, cereal, chips, condiments, fruit cups & yogurt cups

Fresh fruit examples: oranges or bananas, nothing with an edible skin.

Drinks examples: milk and juice
