During the 2022-2023 school year, the Edgewood ISD School Board of Trustees voted to implement the Guardian Program in the district. 

The Guardian Program allows hand picked staff members to carry a weapon on campus. Armed staff provide self defense  prior to the arrival of Law Enforcement in the event of an active shooter on campus. 

Staff members undergo rigorous training by a licensed instructor that include live fire qualification, simulation training, and classroom instruction.
